Radeon RX 9070 XT Tested: Microsoft ASD Technology Accelerates Games by 24x

Experts at Tom’s Hardware have tested Microsoft's Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) technology. This innovation reduces game loading times by pre-compiling shaders. Initial results show that ASD can make games launch several times faster, in some cases 10-20 times faster. This is reported by Ixbt.com .

Currently, this technology is in test mode and supports AMD Radeon graphics cards no older than the RDNA 3 architecture. It also works only with a limited number of games downloaded from the Xbox store. Tests were conducted on a system equipped with a Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card using six games.

In two of the tested games, shader compilation was not observed, and loading times remained unchanged. However, in the other four games, loading times were reduced by 56% to 96%. For example, Forza Horizon 6 loaded in just 2 seconds instead of the previous 48 seconds, which is 24 times faster.

ASD technology positively affects not only loading speed but also gameplay stability. While average performance increased slightly, the 1% Low metric improved significantly. Specifically, in Forza Horizon 6, this metric rose from 54 FPS to 72 FPS, meaning fewer unexpected stutters during gameplay.

In conclusion, Microsoft's ASD technology has proven to be highly effective in saving gamers' time. The feature is now expected to be released to the general public. It is worth noting that Intel is also developing its own similar solution, the Graphics Shader Distribution Service.
