Prices for computer components — especially DDR5 memory — are expected to increase significantly, pepelac.news reports. This follows Samsung’s announcement of a global price hike of 3–5% on its DRAM and NAND products.
According to South Korea’s MK news outlet, the decision is driven by increasing semiconductor demand and similar moves by competitors. After a post-pandemic slump in the DRAM market, demand is now recovering strongly.
Data from DRAMeXchange shows DDR5 module prices have already surged by up to 12%, particularly due to demand from servers and AI-related systems. NAND prices have also climbed by 9%.
Most of the demand is coming from artificial intelligence and data center sectors, not consumer PCs. With companies like Samsung and Micron announcing further price increases, memory prices are likely to continue rising — affecting regular consumers the most.
