The complex political situation in the Middle East has triggered new diplomatic talks. US special envoy Tom Barrack visited Israel on Sunday and met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to sources in the US and Israel, the main topic of discussion was the Trump administration’s request to halt strikes on Lebanon, as well as the issue of launching new negotiations with Syria. It was noted that both sides reviewed ways to reduce tensions and to develop new formats for security.
During the visit, Tom Barrack also held separate strategic meetings. His counterparts included State Secretary Ron Dermer, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, and Defense Minister Israel Katz. These talks focused on strengthening border security measures, preventing emergencies, and reinforcing cooperation channels between the two states.
According to sources, the US administration is aiming as a first step to reach new security agreements between Israel and Lebanon, as well as Israel and Syria. In Washington’s view, amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, it is strategically crucial for Israel to reduce border tensions with its neighbors and secure stability through new agreements.
In this context, priority directions were identified as clarifying security lines, lowering the risk of armed clashes, and coordinating response protocols for emergencies. Maintaining active communication channels, holding rapid consultations, and creating joint action schemes against threats were also discussed.
In summary, the US envoy’s visit was aimed at easing border tensions, developing the foundations of a new security architecture, and agreeing on practical steps toward major accords. However, the fate of such agreements remains directly dependent on official negotiation processes and the political will of the parties involved.
