In the conflict in Ukraine, which has been going on for 3.5 years, for the first time the Russian side has expressed its readiness to make serious concessions to the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, said Vice President J.D. Vance. According to him, this process could become an important turning point on the path to ending the conflict.
According to Vance, Moscow has begun to show flexibility on several key issues:
— They started talking about what is necessary to end the war.
— It cannot be said that Russia accepted all demands. However, they acknowledged that Ukraine would preserve its territorial integrity after the war and that no puppet government would be installed in Kyiv. This was one of the main demands at the beginning.
At the same time, Vance noted that Russia is not in a hurry to cease fire, and this decision is tied to a number of complex factors. He stated that if Washington had full control over Russia’s actions, the conflict would have ended seven months ago.
The U.S. Vice President added:
— Ukrainians will ultimately decide where their state’s territorial borders will be.
— All major wars and conflicts in human history have eventually ended through negotiations.
— Washington does not rule out the possibility of introducing new sanctions against Russia but will act consistently.
— The U.S. does not believe the conflict will end “overnight,” but hopes peace will be established within six months.
Vance emphasized that two key issues must be resolved regarding Ukraine: territorial questions and security guarantees. Russia, he said, has expressed readiness to participate in negotiations on security guarantees for Kyiv.
At the same time, the U.S. does not intend to send troops to Ukraine but will continue to play an active role in ensuring security guarantees.
Experts assess this approach as a historic process, noting that it could open the way to a political settlement of the conflict in the near future.
