Google to shut down goo.gl link shortener

Google will officially end support for its goo.gl URL shortening service on August 25, according to rozetked.me.

The service launched in 2009 and served for years as Google’s primary platform for generating short links.

Although the creation of new links was stopped in 2018, previously created links have continued to function.

Now the service will be fully discontinued. All links created through goo.gl will stop working.

Google recommends users switch to Firebase Dynamic Links (FDL) or other modern link-shortening services.

The company cites security and evolving technical standards as the main reasons behind this decision.
