As global competition in the field of artificial intelligence intensifies, young talents in this area have become valuable "trophies" for tech giants. According to The New York Times, Meta offered 24-year-old AI expert Matt Deitke a contract worth $250 million over four years, reports Pravilamag.
Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg personally invited Deitke to join the company’s new research project called “superintelligence.” This project aims to develop an AI model that surpasses human intelligence in capabilities.
Matt Deitke, who recently launched his own startup and chose an independent career path, was forced to seriously consider the offer.
Initially, Meta offered $125 million — this amount was to be paid in stocks and cash over a four-year period. However, the young expert considered it insufficient and declined the offer.
Afterward, Meta returned with an improved offer, doubling the sum to $250 million. Under the new terms, Deitke could receive up to $100 million in the first year alone.
According to The New York Times, Deitke had never seen such a large sum before and had difficulty deciding. He consulted with his colleagues, and after several days of discussions, his close advisors persuaded him to accept the deal.
By 2025, the recruitment process for AI specialists has become almost like sports transfer negotiations. Major tech companies like Meta, Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI are actively competing for top talent. Online job postings are now appearing in formats similar to professional sports contracts.
