The Italian Data Protection Authority (GPDP) has blocked the DeepSeek chatbot in the country. According to the agency, the decision was made to protect the personal data of Italian users. At the same time, the GPDP has launched an investigation into the activities of this chatbot.
On January 28, the agency demanded that DeepSeek provide detailed information about the processes of collecting and processing users' personal data. However, the company refused this request, citing the fact that it does not officially operate in Italy and, therefore, European law does not apply to it.
Also, yesterday, the DeepSeek platform was removed from online app stores in Italy.
