Syria's new leader prepares for a visit to the United States
As the political changes in Syria become the focus of the world community, the country's interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, will pay an official visit to the United States in September, Syria TV reports. A number of historic meetings and speeches are planned during his visit.

It is noted that al-Sharaa is expected to address the UN General Assembly at its headquarters in New York. This will be the first official speech by a Syrian president from the UN rostrum in 60 years. This event is being seen as the beginning of a new political stage for the country.

A new era has begun in Syria

The interim government headed by Ahmed al-Sharaa was formed on December 9, 2024, after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime. Important reforms were implemented in the new political system: on January 29, 2025, the People's Council was dissolved, the post of prime minister was abolished, and the president began to rule the country directly. Then, on March 29, the first transitional government ended its mandate and handed over its place to a second interim government.

These processes are seen as a step towards renewing the state of governance in Syria and creating a system based on the will of the people.

New flag and historical symbols

In April 2025, Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani officially raised the country's new flag at the UN headquarters in New York. He called it a "historic moment." According to him, the flag symbolizes the country's new beginning, the people's dream, and their desire for political freedom.

As part of al-Shaibani's visit, the Syrian delegation also held meetings with the heads of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. This indicates that the country is re-entering the international economic system.

A new chapter in relations with the United States

In May, US President Donald Trump, commenting on a meeting with Ahmed al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia, described the new Syrian leader as a “strong man” and “a fighter who has emerged strong from political conflicts.” After that, the Trump administration decided to lift sanctions on Syria. He explained this by saying that “new leadership must be given a chance.”

On May 29, another important event occurred: US Special Representative for Syria Thomas Barrack officially raised the American flag at the US embassy, which had been closed since 2012. This became a symbolic sign of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Conclusion: a new leader - a new political course

The political and foreign policy actions of Ahmed al-Sharaa and his administration are paving the way for Syria to return to the international arena. His speech at the UN in September could be a significant event not only for the country but also for the political dynamics of the entire region.

As Syria seeks to build its future on the basis of international cooperation and democratic reforms, the world community's attitude towards it is also changing.
