Astrologer Hilal Saraç, who was arrested in Turkey on charges of insulting the president, apologized to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He left a corresponding post on his X (former Twitter) page.
The astrologer apologized to Erdogan and Bahçeli and noted that he respects politicians. He asked them for help to meet his children. The incident with Saraç occurred on February 6. At that time, he said on social networks that the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party, Davlat Bahçeli, had serious lung problems and recommended that he consult a doctor.
"To be honest, he won't live to see the election. The election will be held ahead of schedule anyway. As I said, I don't dare to write about who exactly I'm talking about, but I think you're smart enough to understand," he said.
Two days later, he was arrested on charges of insulting President Erdogan and Bahçeli.
Turkey is expected to hold early presidential elections in November 2027
The Justice and Development Party is again nominating Erdogan in the elections. The Turkish president was re-elected as leader of the ruling party on February 23. In a speech at the party congress, he expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him.
On March 8, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu officially entered the race for the country's presidency. The Republican People's Party candidate kicked off his presidential campaign with a symbolic visit to Izmir. The Istanbul mayor also spoke about the pressure he is under from the authorities. In his speech, he mentioned the criminal cases against him, including:
- a case of insult;
- threatening the prosecutor;
- a case of forged diplomas.
He also said that the authorities had recently confiscated the property of more than 10 people around him.
- "Since 2014, my only 'crime' has been to be the invincible Ekrem Imamoglu in the elections. You have experienced this four times, and now you are facing your fifth and final defeat. No matter how hard you try, election day is inevitable," he told President Erdogan.
