Global Coffee Prices Reach Record Highs
According to coffee industry representatives, following consecutive years of harvest shortages, at least two stable and productive seasons will be necessary to restore global coffee reserves. This conclusion was expressed on July 4 at the Coffee Dinner & Summit held in Brazil.

At the beginning of 2025, global coffee prices reached a historic record level. The price increase is mainly linked to disruptions in production and steady — or in some markets, growing — demand. Even the expected large harvest in Brazil in the 2026–2027 season may not bring immediate relief to consumers.

Luiz Fernando dos Reis, Commercial Superintendent of the Cooxupe cooperative, commented as follows:

“I don’t think we’ll be able to replenish reserves in the season following this year’s harvest. We’ll need at least two consecutive years of good yields to achieve that.”

Charles Chiapolino, Coffee Research Director at international trading company Louis Dreyfus Company, emphasized:

“To return to the stock levels of four years ago, even in a best-case scenario, we need at least two years of high productivity. But two consecutive years of stable global climate conditions — that’s nearly impossible.”

Hernán Bahamon, Executive Director of the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation, also highlighted the practical difficulty of stockpiling reserves amid stable or increasing global demand:

“When demand remains steady or continues to grow, no one can accumulate large reserves.”

According to Cooxupe’s Reis, Brazil may see a high-yield harvest in the 2026–2027 season. However, the widely grown Arabica variety in the country follows a cycle that produces high yields only every other year. Therefore, strong results are unlikely for the 2027–2028 season.

Resolving the global coffee market shortage is not a fast process. Experts believe that restoring a stable supply requires not only favorable weather but also careful attention to market balance. As a result, coffee prices are likely to remain high in the coming years.
