Doctor Pavel and his sister Sofia find themselves at the center of a conspiracy, with its origins spanning from criminal organizations and revolutionary underground movements to the elite strata of Saint Petersburg society. Sofia and Yasha's father is killed by unknown individuals for losing valuable cargo.
Left alone, the siblings struggle to survive in the city's lowest social layers. During a shootout between bandits and "security" agents, Sofia is injured, and investigator Razdorsky sends her to a hospital.
Meanwhile, con artist Adèle La Mot pretends to be a clairvoyant, gaining the trust of high-ranking official Pavel Veremeyev. Yasha’s medical abilities allow him to infiltrate a gang of thieves.
Razdorsky places Sofia in Adèle's house, where she is tasked with serving as a bridge in spiritual séances. During the first mission at the bazaar, Yasha unexpectedly encounters his sister, whom he believed to be dead.
