Residential building collapses after heavy rains in Makhachkala

Floods caused by heavy and sudden rains in the capital of Dagestan, Makhachkala, have caused a number of problems. In particular, the foundation of a three-story residential building was washed away and the building collapsed, causing great concern among residents.

According to the city administration, security measures have been taken and they have been cordoned off around four apartment buildings on Aivazovsky Street that are "at risk of collapse." More than 300 residents living in these buildings have been evacuated to safer places due to emergency conditions.

“Some of the population will be taken to temporary shelters, where they will be provided with the necessary assistance and support. The rest are being temporarily housed in the homes of relatives,” the city press service said.

According to the Interfax news agency, an annex to one of the residential buildings on Aivazovsky Street also collapsed due to the rain. However, no one was injured. Residents of several high-rise buildings are currently being evacuated due to the threat of flooding.

Heavy rains and floods have been observed in the North Caucasus since the end of March. The greatest damage has occurred in Dagestan: tens of thousands of residents were left without electricity, roads were closed to traffic, and railways were damaged. In Makhachkala, many streets were flooded, and transport was suspended. At the same time, a series of heavy rains and landslides in Chechnya damaged 17 bridges and destroyed dozens of houses.

Currently, the city administration and rescue services are conducting constant monitoring in the flooded areas to ensure the safety of the population and minimize damage.
