
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during his visit to Uzbekistan, announced that Astana plans to increase the transit of Russian gas through Uzbek territory. This was reported by the Akorda information source.
"In addition, there are good opportunities to expand cooperation in the oil sector and the nuclear industry," said the Kazakh leader. According to forecasts by KazTransGas, the volume of Russian gas transit to Uzbekistan is expected to reach 6 billion cubic meters this year.
In 2024, this figure is anticipated to be 5.6 billion cubic meters. The transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan commenced in 2023 and is being delivered via the "Central Asia – Center" pipeline.
During repair work on the pipeline, 10,000 defects were identified, of which close to 6,000 have already been addressed. From January to September this year, Uzbekistan spent $932.3 million on imported gas.
This represents a nearly 30 percent decrease compared to the previous year. Simultaneously, Uzbekistan’s gas exports increased by 15.4 percent throughout the year, reaching $546.2 million.
