Iranian officials criticize Trump over threats to Tehran

Senior Iranian officials warned U.S. President Donald Trump about the potentially severe consequences of his threats against Tehran. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani called Trump’s actions “adventurism” and urged the American public to think about the safety of their troops.

“Trump has resorted to a peculiar kind of adventurism and must explain it clearly to the public. The American people should think about the safety of their troops,” Larijani wrote. He said Trump’s threats reflect the “aggressive stance” of the United States and Israel and underscore the illegality of interfering in the internal affairs of the Iranian people.

Larijani also noted: “There is a difference between protesting shop owners and actions deliberately staged to escalate the situation. U.S. interference in our internal affairs will destabilize the entire region and harm American interests,” he said.

Ali Shamkhani, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, commenting on Trump’s remarks, stressed: “Iran’s national security is our red line. This will not be a topic for thoughtless posts.”

Mass protests in Iran have been ongoing for several days, with people taking to the streets amid a sharp devaluation of the national currency and voicing opposition to economic problems.

Political commentary and reactions against Trump’s threats are said to be growing. The Iranian government, in turn, strongly opposes U.S. foreign policy and emphasizes that the situation poses a serious threat to peace and security across the region.
