Excise Tax to Be Imposed on Chips in Uzbekistan

Excise tax on chips to be introduced in Uzbekistan
Beginning April 1, 2026, Uzbekistan plans to introduce an excise tax on potato chips. The tax will amount to 15,000 soums per kilogram.

This proposal has been put forward by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Additionally, excise taxes on alcoholic beverages will be increased.

For strong alcoholic beverages, such as vodka and cognac, a tax of 48,000 soums per liter is expected to be set. For natural wine, the tax will be 10,000 soums per liter, 12,000 soums for other types of wine, and 4,000 soums for beer. From February 2026, excise taxes on tobacco products, including cigarettes, hookah tobacco, heated tobacco, and vape products, will be raised by 7 percent.

Furthermore, starting in July of the same year, an additional tax of the same rate is expected to be imposed on cigarettes. A progressive taxation system will be introduced for sugary and energy drinks: the higher the sugar content in the drink, the higher the tax rate will be.

If a drink contains up to 5 grams of sugar per 100 ml, the tax will be 500 soums per liter. For drinks with 5–10 grams of sugar, it will be 515 soums, and drinks with over 10 grams of sugar will have a tax of 535 soums per liter. Drinks with artificial sweeteners will be taxed at 500 soums per liter, while energy drinks will incur a tax of 2,150 soums per liter.
