Customs officials in the Samarkand region have intercepted an attempt to illegally import a Starlink satellite communication device into Uzbekistan. The regional customs administration reported the incident following an inspection at the Jartepa border customs post.
During the border control procedures, officers inspected a Mercedes Benz vehicle driven by a citizen arriving from a neighboring country. The search revealed an undeclared Starlink terminal hidden in the trunk of the car. The estimated value of the confiscated equipment is approximately 6 million soums.
According to current legislation, importing and operating satellite communication devices within the republic requires special permits. The Electromagnetic Compatibility Service of the Samarkand region confirmed that bringing in and using this specific equipment without proper authorization is strictly prohibited.
Following the discovery, authorities formalized the necessary procedural documents. A criminal case has been initiated against the individual under relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and an official investigation is currently underway.
