The International Testing Agency (ITA) has announced that Lazizbek Mullajonov, the gold medalist of the 2024 Olympic Games, has been banned from sports for three years due to violating doping regulations. According to ITA, the athlete tested positive for the substance metasterone.
This substance is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and is classified under the group of anabolic androgenic steroids (S1.1), which are banned at all times. Mullajonov admitted to the violation and agreed to a reduced sanction of three years instead of four.
This decision was made under Article 10.8.1 of the World Boxing anti-doping rules. WADA and the National Anti-Doping Agency of Uzbekistan reserve the right to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Meanwhile, Mullajonov is expected to participate in a boxing event in Tashkent today. Special guests for the event include Oleksandr Usyk and Terence Crawford.
