Kroos opposes 2026 World Cup expansion

Former Real Madrid and Germany national team player Toni Kroos criticized the idea of expanding the 2026 World Cup to 48 teams. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.

He said that having more national teams at the World Cup may seem positive, but in such a format the number of unnecessary matches and lopsided scorelines will increase. Kroos does not consider this appropriate for the World Cup level.

“I want to watch high-quality games, not 5–0 or 6–0 wins. I don’t like that. The more matches there are, the more tired the players get, and as a result the overall level drops,” AS quoted him as saying.

The 2026 World Cup will take place in the summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
