FIFA to improve offside detection system for the 2026 World Cup

FIFA plans to further enhance offside detection technology ahead of the 2026 World Cup. This was announced by the organization’s president, Gianni Infantino.
According to him, to accurately track players’ positions, FIFA will introduce a solution in which AI will generate 3D models of all footballers. As a result, the system is expected to determine offside situations faster and more accurately.
Earlier it was reported that the International Football Association Board will discuss possible changes to the offside rules on 20 January 2026. If approved, the updates could take effect as early as this season.
The 2026 World Cup will take place from 11 June to 19 July in Canada, Mexico and the United States. For the first time, 48 teams will participate, including the Uzbekistan national team.
