The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin, has announced a $1 million reward for anyone who can decipher the Indus Valley script. Despite being discovered 100 years ago, its meaning remains a mystery, reports BBC.
People claiming to have deciphered the script frequently send letters to scholar Rajesh Rao. However, most of these theories link the writing to magic or religion, ignoring the fact that the same symbols appear on trade-related stone tablets.
For over a century, archaeologists, linguists, and scholars have tried to solve this puzzle. Some believe the script consists of political or religious symbols. The challenge lies in the fact that there are only about 4,000 known characters, most of which appear on small artifacts. The average inscription length is just five symbols, making interpretation even more difficult.
The Indus Valley civilization emerged 5,300 years ago in what is now India and Pakistan. The reasons for its sudden decline remain unknown. However, its greatest mystery is its undeciphered script. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
