According to police, the suspect was apprehended near Yeouinaru station. Investigations revealed that he brought a blowtorch and a fuel canister into the train car and started a fire between Yeouinaru and Mapo stations.
As a result, more than 400 passengers had to be urgently evacuated through the tunnel. Over 20 people were hospitalized due to symptoms of smoke inhalation. Some of them reportedly suffered fractures, including broken ankles.
Although the fire was extinguished in time, Seoul Metro representatives stated that train operations between Yeouinaru and Eoge stations have been temporarily suspended.
