Car Imports May Be Restricted

Uzbekistan is planning to reduce imports of cars registered under the names of private individuals.
This was revealed in a decision aimed at promoting cashless payments in the country. To support this initiative, it is planned to ease territorial restrictions on car imports for legal entities.
The corresponding decision is scheduled to be prepared by March of next year. The development of the document has been assigned to “Uzstandard,” the Ministry of Investments, and the Customs Committee.
In the first nine months of this year, Uzbekistan purchased over 56,300 cars from abroad, which is 1,900 more compared to the previous year. As of early October, the total import volume amounted to 807.3 million US dollars.
The largest share of car supply came from China — approximately 52,000 units. South Korea delivered 2,500 units, while the United States and Japan supplied 511 and 296 cars, respectively.
