Citroën brings back the legendary 2CV as an affordable electric car

French automaker Citroën has officially confirmed the revival of the nameplate of one of its most iconic models, the 2CV. During the Stellantis Investor Day held in Michigan, Citroën CEO Xavier Chardon showcased the first teaser of the new electric vehicle and announced, "The 2CV is coming back." The new model will be an affordable city car expected to retail for approximately £15,000 (around $19,000). This is according to a report by.

The design of the new 2CV will retain the signature "snail" silhouette characteristic of its historical ancestor, but reimagined in the style of the modern ELO concept. The full reveal of the car is scheduled for the Paris Motor Show this October. This model will be one of seven new electric vehicles that the Citroën brand plans to launch by 2030.

Xavier Chardon emphasized that the new electric car will serve the same purpose as the original 1940s 2CV: to revitalize the European automotive market and provide affordable mobility to everyday drivers. "80 years later, the new 2CV will democratize electric mobility. It will be a people's car designed for real life," said the company head.

The new model will be produced at the Pomigliano plant in Italy alongside the new generation of the Fiat Panda. The Citroën 2CV is expected to replace the petrol-powered C1 and enter the market as the brand's most affordable electric vehicle. The company believes that simple, intuitively operated cars will succeed in the future over complex technologies.
