Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 Mythos: The V8 engine returns

The Mercedes-AMG brand has announced a definitive return to V8 engines with its new CLE 63 Mythos coupe. Until now, AMG variants of the CLE model were only offered with six-cylinder turbo engines, but the Mythos series will feature a powerful V8 unit derived from the updated S-Class. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk .
This 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine is equipped with a flat-plane crankshaft typically found in supercars. In the S-Class, this motor delivers 530 hp and 750 Nm of torque, propelling the two-ton sedan to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. For the CLE 63, the second model in the exclusive Mythos series, engineers plan to further increase the power output.
It is estimated that the new coupe's power will exceed 600 hp, allowing it to reach 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds. The vehicle's chassis will undergo significant modernization to accommodate such high power. A prototype testing on the Nürburgring track appears noticeably lower and wider than the current CLE 53 model.
AMG's return to V8 engines comes after the experiment with hybrid technologies and smaller displacement motors proved unsuccessful. According to company representatives, the four-cylinder plug-in hybrid system in the C63 and GLC 63 models was not well-received by traditional customers. It also became clear that the costs of adapting these motors to Euro 7 standards were prohibitively high.
