On November 24, 2025, the first-ever “Superman” comic, discovered on the roof of a house in Northern California, was sold at the Heritage Auctions for a record $9.12 million. This was reported by CNN.
The comic was found while organizing a house that had been inherited, and it was identified by the deceased owner's family. Among the discoveries were the 1939 publication “Superman #1” and the first five issues of “Action Comics.”
Although the comic was originally sold for just 10 cents, its condition has been preserved so well that experts at Heritage Auctions described it as “one of the best-preserved examples.” This publication marked history as the first standalone comic focusing on Clark Kent and Superman.
It was released after Superman debuted in “Action Comics” and following the acquisition of the publisher National Allied Publications by Detective Comics, Inc. (now DC).
This sale surpassed all previous transactions in the collectible comics market, setting a new world record.
