
Renowned Indian actor Dharmendra (full name Dharmendra Keval Krishan Deol) has passed away at the age of 89. This was reported by Variety.
Audiences in the former Soviet Union especially remember him for the film 'Seeta Aur Geeta.' Over the course of his career, Dharmendra appeared in more than 250 films.
Some of his notable works include 'Mera Gaon Mera Desh' ('My Village My Country'), 'Phool Aur Patthar' ('Flower and Stone'), and 'Alibaba Aur 40 Chor' ('Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves'). The filming of the latter took place in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, where Dharmendra played the lead role.
Dharmendra was born on December 8, 1935, in Nasrali. He made his debut in the film industry during the 1960s with a role in the movie 'Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere.'
In addition to his acting career, Dharmendra was also active in Indian politics. From 2004 to 2009, he served as a member of parliament representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described his passing as marking the end of an era in Indian cinema, stating: 'The demise of Dharmendra is an immense loss for Indian cinema. He was a legendary figure in the film industry, bringing profound meaning and unique charm to every role he played.'
