Arizona-based psychologist Coltan Scrivner divides viewers into three groups: “adrenaline seekers,” “fear conquerors,” and “psychological defenders.” The last group watches such films to prepare for dangers and worries in real life. Therefore, they tend to be more emotionally resilient.

Experts say that horror movies teach people to manage their emotions and control fear. For example, during the pandemic, fans of horror movies tended to remain calmer than others.

For this reason, psychologists consider horror movies not just a source of excitement but also a useful “therapy.” They expose the human mind to fear in a safe environment and strengthen its ability to withstand real-life stress and anxiety.
