How do short videos affect human psychology?

Engaging in short videos on social media isn't a problem in itself; the key criterion is its impact on quality of life. This was stated by clinical psychologist Darya Serebryakova Isaeva, according to Izvestia.
According to her, if watching reels inspires, gives energy, and stimulates real activity - studying, communication, creativity - it's about normal leisure, not addiction.
The danger arises when scrolling leads to apathy, irritability, sleep disturbance, and reduced productivity. Short content actively affects the dopamine system, creating an instant reward effect, but at the same time impairs concentration, memory, and the ability for long-term mental work.
Active life outside of gadgets helps reduce the harm from short videos: movement, live communication, a clear work and rest schedule. Specialists advise taking regular breaks, moving more, and gradually transitioning to longer and more meaningful formats - lectures, podcasts, popular science films.
At the same time, psychologists note a positive shift: users, especially young people, are starting to be more critical of reels. Among zoomers, the "paper trend" is gaining popularity - interest in reading books and other formats that develop attention and concentration. Experts believe that conscious use of social networks can become an important skill in the coming years.
