How do scammers get into phones through APK files?

Recently, cybercriminals have been actively using a new and very dangerous method. They are spreading APK files with serious messages such as “subpoenas” through various messengers, especially Telegram, and luring people into a trap. This application, which at first glance looks like a simple file, is actually a dangerous “key” created to steal your personal information.
Such messages are aimed at influencing human psychology. Because the very word “subpoena” makes any person anxious. Especially if your name is clearly indicated in the message, questions like “what have I done?”, “who sued me?” arise. This feeling of curiosity and anxiety pushes a person to open the APK file without thinking. In fact, this is exactly the main goal of scammers - to force you to open the file.
The problem is that by opening the APK file, you are handing over your phone to a stranger. Installing this file installs malware on the device and opens up a wide range of opportunities for cybercriminals.
In this case, the following risks may arise:
— your personal information is stolen;
— unauthorized access to your accounts is possible;
— the phone can be controlled remotely;
— funds are withdrawn through financial applications;
— malicious files are distributed to your loved ones in your name.
In short, one file can put your entire digital life at risk. Therefore, you should absolutely refuse to open or install any APK file of unknown origin.
If you accidentally open a suspicious file, it is very important to act quickly without wasting time. First, turn off the Internet or put your phone in “airplane mode”. Then immediately delete the suspicious application through the device settings. If the problem persists, do not delay contacting a specialist.
It is also recommended to log in to payment applications, delete extraneous devices, and, if necessary, change the number to which the card is linked to ensure financial security.
In today's digital age, the greatest protection is caution. A seemingly simple file may hide a big threat. Therefore, thinking twice before each click is the right decision today.
