Thailand shortens visa-free period for Uzbekistan citizens

The Kingdom of Thailand, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Southeast Asia, has decided to amend its visa policy. The preferential period currently in effect for citizens of Uzbekistan and 92 other countries is expected to be halved.

Is the 60-day period becoming a thing of the past?

According to a new plan developed by the Thai government, the visa-free stay for foreigners in the country will be reduced from the current 60 days to 30 days. Recall that the 60-day visa-free travel opportunity for Uzbek citizens was introduced in July 2024. Shortly after, this procedure is already being reconsidered.

Why was this decision made?

Official Bangkok explains this decision with several important factors:

  • Migration control: Strengthening control over visitors entering and leaving through state borders.

  • Illegal employment: Recently, there has been an increase in cases of people using tourist privileges to work illegally in Thailand or staying for other ulterior motives.

  • Security: Ensuring the country's internal security and putting an end to the abuse of the visa regime.

Order is needed, even if tourists decrease

Interestingly, the flow of tourists to Thailand this year has been observed to decrease by 3.5 percent. Nevertheless, the kingdom's leadership is prioritizing order and security over economic gain.

The exact date for these changes to take effect has not yet been officially announced. Officials stated that detailed information and regulations regarding this will be presented to the public soon.

Do you think the reduction of the visa-free period will dampen the interest of Uzbek tourists in Thailand?
