Barcelona Asks Lewandowski to Stop Scoring

Intriguing events are described in Sebastian Staszewski's book about Robert Lewandowski. One of them, to put it mildly, might seem strange: the Barcelona management reportedly asked the Polish striker to stop scoring goals at the end of his debut season.

According to the book, one official said, "Robert, we would like you not to score in the last two games," starting the conversation. Club President Joan Laporta was also present in the room.

Some officials in the room were blushing, not from the scorching May sun, but likely out of embarrassment. Lewandowski was left in astonishment.

According to the source, Barcelona at the time was forced to economize due to financial difficulties. Had Lewandowski scored 25 goals in the Spanish championship, the club would have been obliged to pay him a €2.5 million bonus.

In the final two matches of the 2022/2023 La Liga season, Lewandowski did not score, finishing the season with 23 goals.
