The tough and responsible match between Javokhir Sindarov and Jose Martinez in the World Cup has also come to an end. The young and talented grandmaster of Uzbekistan worthily conquered the next important stage and achieved the victory awaited the fans. This game is not only Sindarov's personal achievement, but also an important mark confirming the strength of Uzbek chess on the international stage.
After the competition, the Director of the Youth Affairs Agency, along with the First Deputy Chairman of the Chess Federation of Uzbekistan, Alisher Sadullayev, expressed his feelings of great satisfaction and joy. He noted that today has become a real holiday for Uzbek chess, because for the first time in history, two of our chess players reached the semi-finals of the World Cup simultaneously.
According to Sa'dullayev, both opponents - Nodirbek Yakubboyev and Javohir Sindarov - are representing Uzbekistan in this semi-final. The other two semi-finalists are Chinese Wei Yi and Andrey Esipenko, who is playing under the FIDE flag. Interestingly, although the tournament was held in India, no Indian chess player made it to the semi-finals - this, in turn, became one of the unusual and historical points of the tournament.
Alisher Sa'dullayev emphasized the importance of this competition. Because the World Cup not only presents a large prize fund, but also plays for very important spots. The second and third places in the competition will receive a ticket directly to the Candidates Tournament. This tournament will later become one of the main stages on the path to the Chess Crown. Winners and prize-winners of the World Cup are also among the chess players who will be selected in various disciplines throughout the year.
As Sa'dullayev noted, our chances are extremely high this time. Because Uzbek chess players faced each other in the semi-finals, at least one ticket is already counted. Participation in the final itself gives a ticket to the Candidates Tournament. And winning the match for third place opens the way to another spot. So, perhaps, for the first time in its history, our country will go to the Candidates Tournament with two chess players.
In his words, this is the achievement of the entire Uzbek chess school, the fruit of years of hard work, and a bright result of the determination of our youth.
Of course, such success delights every fan, inspires every child, and adds bright names to the new pages of history that Uzbek chess is writing.
As a reminder, the semi-final kicks off on Friday, November 21st. Even more intense and historic moments await our fans.
