In Serie A Round 20, Roma defeated Sassuolo 2–0. The Giallorossi decided the match late on, with both goals coming after the 77th minute.

In the first half, Roma looked superior both in possession and in the number of entries into the penalty area, but lacked accuracy with the final shots. In particular, Dybala’s effort from the center of the box went wide. Meanwhile, Ferguson picked up a lower-back injury and could not continue, with El Shaarawy coming on in his place.

Sassuolo mainly responded with a few counterattacks. In the most dangerous moment, Fadera struck after a pass from Matic, but goalkeeper Svilar saved the shot at the near post to keep his team alive.

After the break, the Giallorossi increased the pressure down the wings: Simikas and Celik regularly delivered balls into the box. In the 62nd minute, the referee awarded a penalty for Muric’s rough challenge on Soule, but VAR flagged an offside and the decision was overturned.

Still, the Wolves managed to break their opponents. In the 77th minute, Soule delivered an accurate cross from the flank and Kone won the aerial duel to open the scoring with a header. Soon after, Sassuolo pushed forward and left spaces at the back, which Roma exploited: in the 79th minute, Soule converted Gilardi’s pass to make it 2–0.
