US Considers Option of New Military Strike on Iran

Reports have recently circulated that Donald Trump has been presented with a number of options for carrying out new military strikes on Iran. According to The New York Times, one option given to the US president includes strikes on non-military sites in Tehran, though no clear details have yet been provided about what those sites would be.
According to the newspaper’s sources, Trump has not yet made a decision, but is seriously weighing whether to authorize new strikes. One US military official said that ahead of any potential attack, commanders in the region would need time to reinforce their positions and prepare for expected retaliatory strikes from Iran.
The Wall Street Journal also reported on the matter, noting that officials in the Trump administration discussed the possibility of a large-scale air campaign against Iran’s military facilities. However, sources said no consensus has been reached on the current plan, and US troops and equipment have not yet been moved to new positions to prepare for a strike.
The discussions are described as part of ongoing planning, while there are still no clear signs that any new measures against Iran are about to be launched. In response to an inquiry, the White House pointed to Trump’s post on Truth Social, which read: “Iran is striving for freedom, perhaps more than ever before. The USA is ready to help!!!”.
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stressed that any US attack would trigger Tehran’s retaliatory strikes on Israel and US military bases in the region.
Iran’s political situation has long remained in the spotlight. Mass protests that began on December 28 quickly spread across the country due to the economic crisis. The national currency’s devaluation and a sharp rise in inflation created conditions resembling wartime. Protesters are demanding regime change, while the government has moved to suppress the demonstrations by force. Although reports say the death toll in clashes has exceeded 200, there is no official data.
