Former Zenit player Denis Ugarov made an ironic comment about Curaçao and Cape Verde reaching the final stage of the 2026 World Cup. He said this in an interview with Euro-Football.Ru. This was reported by euro-football.ru reports .

According to Ugarov, before qualifying for the final stage of the World Cup, these teams should have played a friendly match against the Russia national team. The expert stressed that such a game would be the best benchmark to assess their true strength.

For reference: Curaçao, coached by Dick Advocaat, will play in Group E against Germany, Ecuador and Côte d’Ivoire. Cape Verde are in Group H and will face Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.

The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
