More than a hundred horses have died in Kazakhstan

Heavy rainfall observed in the Mangystau district of Kazakhstan led to the mass death of horses. This was reported by “Lada.kz”.

It is reported that after the rains, animals got stuck in saline lands, and most of them died. Local authorities commented on the situation.

Local residents wrote on social networks about the loss of livestock. According to them, each household lost from several to ten heads of livestock.

“After heavy rains in Mangystau, around the village of Akshimirau, livestock was carried away by water flows and ended up in saline areas. Many horses got stuck in salty mud and died, while some cannot get out. If the Ministry of Emergency Situations and local authorities do not provide assistance, the situation may worsen,” said village residents.

Citizens asked lawmakers and animal protection organizations to pay attention to the problem.

Later, the local administration reported that in the Mangystau region, work is underway to eliminate the consequences of adverse weather conditions observed on April 14–15 in the village of Sayotes.

According to the information, between the village of Sayotes and the railway station “7th siding” (120–150 km from the district center), cases of death of agricultural animals were identified along the railway.

To assess the situation, a special commission was formed on April 16–17 with the participation of representatives of state bodies.

According to preliminary data, more than a hundred horses were found. Currently, local executive bodies are уточняют the number of dead livestock, as the owners have not yet been able to fully conduct accounting.

It is noted that the cause of livestock death was sharp weather conditions such as strong winds and heavy rains. Lost animals ended up in hard-to-reach areas and died in excessively wet soils. Some herds may have died 60–80 km away from populated areas.

To search for missing livestock, aerial monitoring using drones has been organized. Under the leadership of the deputy regional governor, an оперативный штаб meeting was held, following which oil and gas enterprises were instructed to provide additional technical assistance.

Currently, the head of the regional department of agriculture and land relations is in the Mangystau district, holding meetings with the population and coordinating necessary work.

“To eliminate the consequences of the incident, all forces and resources have been mobilized: equipment of large enterprises, emergency services, and local executive bodies have been involved. Water removal and restoration work is ongoing at an accelerated pace. The situation is under constant control. Work with livestock owners is being carried out, modern monitoring tools and special equipment are being used,” the Mangystau district administration said.
