The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has issued a decision to reorganize the State Tourism Committee and the Ministry of Ecology, according to a report from the presidential press service. The Tourism Committee will be separated as an independent entity.
Additionally, the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change will be established based on the ministry and will no longer be under the structure of the Cabinet of Ministers. This committee will be headed by the President’s advisor on ecological matters.
The new ecology committee will oversee the implementation of national projects such as “Waste-Free Zones,” “Clean Air,” “Green Space,” “Eco-Culture,” and “Biodiversity.” Furthermore, the committee will include an "Eco-Project Factory" and an Environmental Police force.
A separate resolution addresses the organization of the National Environmental Monitoring Center. By September 2026, a unified online platform for ecology will be launched.
Enterprises classified as Category I and II must install background monitoring stations by March 1, 2026. Failure to comply will result in a fivefold increase in compensation fees.
From this date, all ecological compensation benefits, except those defined by law, will be cancelled. The rules regarding permits for tree cutting or relocation will also be tightened: any decision violating ecological requirements will be prohibited.
The Environmental Police will be granted the authority to use special tools and service weapons, as well as provided with uniforms equipped with special cameras. Starting from April 2026, citizens will have the opportunity to initiate actions to protect areas with trees that do not fall under the forest fund within residential zones.
