
Since the beginning of 2025, the unemployment rate in Uzbekistan has decreased to 4.9%. This figure was announced during a meeting held under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev regarding employment initiatives for the population.
Unemployment rates in the cities of Bukhara, Kogon, Navoi, Zarafshan, Samarkand, and Shirin dropped below 4%, approaching the "natural" level for the first time. Additionally, it was noted that more than 1,400 neighborhoods have been declared poverty-free areas for the first time.
By the end of the year, the poverty rate is forecasted to decrease to 6% (compared to 8.9% last year). The head of state identified Uzun district in Surkhandarya region as one of the model areas.
This year, 160 billion soums were allocated under the poverty reduction program in this district. Moreover, $70 million in foreign investments were attracted, 47 enterprises were launched, and about 1,000 people gained employment in 300 service facilities.
In Uzun, cooperation between entrepreneurs and the local population was established. As a result, the poverty rate in Uzun district has fallen from 10.5% to 3% since the beginning of the year.
