In Uzbekistan, those who commit cruelty to animals can be imprisoned for up to 1 year

In Uzbekistan, responsibility for cruelty to animals will be increased. Deputies of the Ecological Party are preparing a new draft law for this purpose.

According to the law adopted on March 25, 2026, a person who commits cruelty may be fined 15–25 times the base amount or sentenced to administrative detention for up to 15 days. The new draft law further strengthens responsibility, raising fines up to 200 times the base amount (82.4 million soums) or imprisonment for up to 1 year.

Additionally, the guilty person will be obliged to fully cover veterinary expenses, prevent abandonment of animals, and clearly define owners’ responsibilities. The law also provides for creating a comfortable environment for animals in public places and promoting a culture of care through education.

Previously, in Tashkent region, a person who abused cats was sentenced to 15 days of administrative detention.
