Antoine Griezmann bids farewell to Atletico Madrid

Antoine Griezmann said an emotional goodbye to Atletico Madrid fans on Sunday. Playing his final home match before a move to MLS side Orlando City, the Frenchman recorded his 100th assist for the club, reports Goal.com. reports .

Goalkeeper Jan Oblak led the post-match tributes, stating that Griezmann deserved to win the Ballon d'Or during his illustrious career. The 35-year-old, making his 500th appearance, provided the decisive pass for Ademola Lookman in the 21st minute to secure a 1-0 victory over Girona.

This assist marked his 100th in the red-and-white jersey. Griezmann also managed to score a total of 212 goals for the club. Although his teammates tried to create an opportunity for a farewell goal, the legendary forward could not score in his final home match, but he received a fitting tribute at the Metropolitano stadium.

In his interview, Jan Oblak said: "I am happy to have played with him. He should have won the Ballon d'Or. Many years still await him in the USA." Griezmann arrived from Real Sociedad in 2014 and wrote one of the most brilliant chapters in Atletico Madrid's history.

Atletico Madrid will now face Villarreal in the next round for third place. Girona will play a decisive match against Elche to remain in La Liga.
