Dacian treasury artifacts stolen from a Dutch museum
Unknown individuals broke into the Drenthe Museum in the Dutch city of Assen and stole several exhibits from the “Dacia! The Kingdom of Gold and Silver” exhibition belonging to Romania. This was reported by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the ministry, a blast occurred in the museum on January 25, allegedly organized to gain access to the building. As a result, artifacts from the Dacian treasury were stolen.

“Preliminary information indicates that the explosion was organized to break into the museum building where the Dacian treasury exhibits belonging to Romania were on display,” the report stated.

Police believe the perpetrators were a group acting in an organized manner. Among the stolen items were an almost pure gold helmet and three gold bracelets.

Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu contacted his Dutch counterpart Kaspar Veldkamp by phone, emphasizing the immense cultural and historical significance of the stolen exhibits and expressing Romania’s deep concern over the incident.

Dutch law enforcement authorities have sought assistance from Interpol. The investigation is ongoing, and the remaining exhibits are being inventoried.
