Spanish blogger Meri Kaldas and her husband Alejandro Cid could not go on their planned vacation. The reason was the incorrect answer of the artificial intelligence assistant — ChatGPT, reports Pravilamag.
The couple planned to travel to the island of Puerto Rico, a US territory. Before booking flights, hotels, and events, they asked the neural network if additional documents were needed. ChatGPT told them that no visa was required, but did not mention the ESTA permit necessary for entry into the US and its territories.
The travelers found out about this only at the airport check-in. Staff refused to board them due to the absence of ESTA. “I always do a lot of research, but this time I asked ChatGPT, and it said no,” Meri explained in her blog.
The video about this unpleasant incident, posted by the blogger, quickly spread online. Opinions of users were divided: some sympathized with the couple, others criticized them for irresponsibility in organizing the trip.
Kaldas jokingly added that the chatbot might have “taken revenge out of resentment”: “Sometimes I insult it, say that it is useless. But I ask it to give good information… maybe this was its revenge.”
