White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt held a briefing. During the briefing, she analyzed the significance of the summit in Alaska and also discussed potential security guarantees that the United States may provide to Ukraine. The press secretary emphasized the US commitment to ensuring regional and international stability and the efforts aimed at maintaining peace in Ukraine.
Results of the Alaska Summit
According to Levitt, the summit in Alaska was effective and opened the way for the next stage of negotiations to stabilize the complex situation in Ukraine. It was noted that “a light at the end of the tunnel” appeared in the process of resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The summit had strategic significance for the United States and its European partners.
Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Presidential Envoy Steve Whitkoff reported that coordination with Russia and Ukraine is aimed at accelerating the meeting between Putin and Zelensky. These actions, as noted at the briefing, serve the stabilization of Ukraine and are an important step for the international community.
US Security Guarantees for Ukraine
Levitt emphasized that within the framework of security guarantees, US troops will not be present in Ukraine, but Washington will assist in coordinating work on security guarantees. Additionally, the US does not rule out providing air support to Ukraine as part of these security guarantees.
The briefing also stated that Washington is discussing with Moscow security guarantees for Ukraine that would be acceptable to Russia. For a “good deal,” Russia and Ukraine need to reach a small compromise even if they remain partially dissatisfied. This, in turn, is an important signal to the international community.
Preparation for the Putin-Zelensky Meeting
The press secretary noted that according to Trump, open dialogue with Putin is necessary, which will help understand Russia’s position. Accordingly, Putin and Zelensky agreed to sit at the negotiating table, and full preparation for their meeting is underway.
Putin promised to meet Zelensky personally within the next two weeks. The United States is discussing multiple potential locations for future trilateral talks with Russia.
Trump supports faster negotiations and does not want to wait another month. He also understands that even after his presidential term ends, peace and security in Ukraine must be maintained.
This briefing clearly demonstrated the US approach to Ukraine-Russia relations and provided an important signal for next week’s negotiations.
