The Ukrainian crisis and the new administration of US President Donald Trump are pushing the European Union to unite and prepare Europeans to respond to collective security challenges, French President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement on February 3.
According to the French leader, Donald Trump's policy also serves to reduce Europe's dependence on other countries.
"The events in Ukraine, as well as the decisions being made by the new administration of Donald Trump, are pushing Europeans to be more united and to respond more actively to collective security challenges," the French leader said at an informal meeting of EU leaders.
Macron noted that the coronavirus epidemic and Russia's aggression in Ukraine have become a reawakening point. He said that the rise to power of Donald Trump in the US has become one of the factors that has determined the direction of reducing Europe's dependence on other countries.
According to the French leader, the members of the alliance should "continue to develop the defense industry and defense technological base", and also "invest more, giving priority to European production."
Earlier, the European Commission warned US President Donald Trump about the consequences of a possible trade war following the recent tariff decisions. According to the EU representative, the EU will "respond firmly" to any trading partner that imposes tariffs unjustly or arbitrarily. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
