The royal family of Saudi Arabia was forced to close a tragic story that had lasted for many years: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal died at the age of 35, reports thenationalnews.com. He had been in a coma since 2005, meaning he had lived that many years in an unconscious state.
Ironically, the prince spent almost half of his life unconscious, connected to artificial respiration machines and surrounded by family members who clung to hope. His fate changed due to a traffic accident that occurred while he was studying at a military academy in London. The injury was severe — a head trauma and brain hemorrhage that led to a coma.
Nineteen years passed. During this time, any movement of the prince’s fingers or eyes gave great hope to his relatives. In particular, in 2020, videos showing him making movements were widely discussed on social media. He even began to be referred to as a “symbol of hope and endurance.”
Prince Al-Waleed was notable not only as a person but also because of his status in the royal family. He was the son of Prince Khalid bin Talal, the nephew of famous billionaire Al-Waleed bin Talal, and the great-grandson of Saudi Arabia’s first king Abdulaziz.
Surprisingly, his father, despite all the pressure, insisted on continuing his son’s life with artificial support. Even with nearly all vital signs absent, he always believed that his son would wake up someday.
But that hope faded. On July 19, 2025, his death was officially announced. The funeral is scheduled for July 20.
On social media, under the hashtag #SleepingPrince, thousands of people are expressing condolences to the prince’s family. This once again reminded us how important human emotions, hope, and patience are.
It is hoped that Al-Waleed’s remarkable story will remain a source of inspiration and strength for others. No matter how fate unfolds, the value of human life is always supreme. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
