According to sources covering the war, the animals are being used to replace traditional means of transport. Donkeys can be used to transport ammunition and other things, and even to move troops. One of the Russian soldiers explained his reaction to this situation as follows:
“We have to accept it. I don’t know where, why, and how. But the fact is that they gave us a donkey.”
He also added that the animal was given for logistical purposes:
“This donkey is located with the supply unit. We have problems with vehicles, our trucks are being destroyed. So now we have a live donkey carrying ammunition. This is not a volunteer effort — our truck went out to deliver supplies and returned with the donkeys.”
However, some Russian military bloggers claimed that the donkeys were a local initiative. However, Krill Fedorov, who was one of the first to write about it, said that the initiative belonged to the high command, citing a decision by the Defense Ministry.
“The fighters were given donkeys to deliver ammunition. What did you expect? There is a shortage of equipment these days,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine had begun to switch to horses due to heavy losses of armored vehicles.
Journalists say that the losses of Russian equipment in Ukraine have exceeded 15 thousand. And the production of new equipment is delayed. The reserves of old equipment from the Cold War era are expected to run out by the end of 2024. This has forced some Russian military personnel to finally switch to horses.
Russian losses in Ukraine
According to the ORYH portal, which confirms the losses of participants in armed conflicts based on visual evidence, the Russian side has lost 3,734 tanks and 5,443 infantry fighting vehicles since the beginning of the large-scale war. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
