In Eastern Europe, issues of geopolitical security and defense are becoming increasingly relevant, writes defence24.pl. Today, the Polish government is taking the next historic step to strengthen the country’s defense capacity and ensure independence from external threats.
In the coming days, Poland’s state defense concern PGZ (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa) will receive a huge investment for artillery shell production. According to Minister of State Assets Jakub Jaworowski, an additional $663 million will be directly invested in expanding local production capacities. As a result, production of 155mm and 120mm artillery shells will be increased fivefold, reaching 180,000 units per year.
According to Jaworowski, Poland aims to reduce dependence on imported weapons and achieve full military autonomy. In this way, the country not only strengthens protection against external threats, especially from Russia, but also seeks to consolidate its leading position within NATO.
Currently, PGZ produces 30,000 large-caliber shells per year, but over the next three years, this figure is planned to reach 150–180 thousand. This means that Poland’s manufacturing plants will be fully modernized technologically and new jobs will be created.
According to Financial Times, Poland is one of the countries with the highest share of defense spending among NATO members: in 2025, the country will allocate 4.7% of GDP to this sector. However, up to now, most of the funds have gone to American and South Korean suppliers, but now the government has decided to support domestic capacity and encourage the national industry.
According to analysts, these efforts may bring Poland real independence in strategic security, new technologies, and economic stability. With this new investment flow, the country will have the opportunity to join the leaders of Europe in the defense sector.
These developments in Poland are causing a major wave not only in the military, but also in the social and economic fields. As new realities emerge on the world political stage, these reforms may become a strategic advantage for Poland in the future. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
