Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that he does not intend to impose a state of emergency in response to the mass protests in the country. This was reported by Serbian media outlet RTS.
In his address, Vučić emphasized that the state has the right to take various measures to restore order, and that a state of emergency should be the last resort. According to him, the measures provided by law will help stabilize the situation in the country, and if they are not implemented, the state of emergency will not be necessary.
Nevertheless, Vučić declared that he is prepared to take decisive actions to restore order. He stated that without drastic measures, crime and public unrest could escalate within a few days. According to the president, it is crucial to take a firm stance on public order, which will ensure the safety of people.
In recent days, there have been various disturbances in Serbia. Opposition political parties have attacked buildings, causing turmoil. Reports suggest that dozens of people have been arrested, and police officers have been injured. Additionally, demonstrations by citizens supporting the state are taking place.
Disorder and political instability undoubtedly pose significant challenges to the state. However, this situation can be addressed with stable solutions and decisive actions. According to Vučić, to restore stability to the country, necessary measures must be taken promptly.
