In the US, major food manufacturers have announced plans to remove artificial dyes from their products. This decision is being implemented as part of the “Make America Healthy Again” initiative launched by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Experts note that petroleum-based artificial dyes may be linked to attention deficit in children, obesity, and diabetes. Therefore, the Food and Drug Administration is working on removing them from the market.
Major companies such as Mars, Hershey, General Mills, Nestlé, Kraft Heinz and PepsiCo have pledged to completely phase out artificial dyes in the coming years and replace them with natural colorings.
Some companies, including Sam’s Club and Tyson Foods, will begin removing artificial dyes from their products in 2025. Most other major producers plan to complete this process in 2026–2027.
Thus, in the coming years, American consumers are expected to find more sweets and beverages made only with natural colors. This is seen as an important step towards healthier nutrition.
