UN sanctions on Iran have come into force again. They were lifted in 2015. The United Kingdom, France and Germany reintroduced the measures because Iran did not comply with conditions on its nuclear program.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called the decision wrong and unfair. According to him, Iran is focusing not on weapons but only on energy production.
However, Western states do not trust Iran. They said the country does not allow monitoring and does not provide complete information about uranium reserves.
European states said there is still room for discussion. Israel supported the sanctions and called on the international community to take firm measures.
